Polk County Health Department offers H1N1 flu clinics

The Polk County Health Department will continue to offer vaccinations for the H1N1 influenza virus while supplies last beginning Thursday, Oct. 15. Both the vaccine and flu mist versions will be available. At this time, the Polk County Health Department is the only place to receive the vaccine — no area hospitals or clinic systems (including Mercy Medical Center and Mercy Clinics) have received the H1N1 vaccine.

The Polk County Health Department is located at 1907 Carpenter Avenue in Des Moines. Vaccinations will be offered on the following dates:

  • Thursday, Oct. 15, 8 a.m. — 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 16, 8 a.m. — 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 17, 9 a.m. — 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 18, 9 a.m. — 4 p.m.
  • Weekdays from 8 a.m. — 7 p.m. (while supplies last)

 

The vaccine will only be made available to people who meet the following criteria:

  • Pregnant women; or
  • Children and young adults ages six months to 24 years old;
  • Parent/caregiver of infants less than 6 months old; or
  • Health or emergency medical workers; or
  • Patients 25-64 years of age with medical conditions such as heart disease, asthma, diabetes, kidney disease, etc.
